Hi there,
Here's a little bit about why I paint......
For me, it is both a passion and a challenge. Every painting is a different journey. Sometimes, it’s a struggle to convey an important message, to bring depth and meaning to the canvas (such as in my Satire and Cynicism collection.) Other times, it’s about capturing the beauty of the world around us (which I endeavor in both Landscapes and Studies of People.)
No matter the purpose, the act of painting itself is what drives me. The journey of creating—through trial, error, and discovery—is where I find both fulfillment and an escape from the troubles of our World.
Through my work, I hope to connect with you and to share the joy that comes from developing art from life.
And at the end of it all, if you are searching for a unique work as a worthwhile investment, or just something beautiful to hang on your wall, maybe one of my images could be just what you're looking for?
Wishing you contentment, good health and happiness,
Tom.
PS And for anyone who is interested, here is my CV:
Before painting:
Hons Chemistry BSc, University of Glasgow.
Master of Business Studies, Scottish Business School.
Campaign Planner, Avon Overseas Ltd, London.
Admin Manager, Division Parfum et Beaute, L’Oreal, Melbourne.
Account Director, Monahan Dayman Adams Advertising, Melbourne.
Group Account Director, Darcy Masius Benton and Bowles, Melbourne.
Tom developed campaigns for clients such as Gillette, Beecham, Nicholas Kiwi, Colonial Mutual, Gillette, The Australian Dairy Corporation (Where’s the Cheese?) Uncle Ben’s Pet Foods (Chum, Whiskas, Schmackos) (plus several products he is too embarrassed to admit to!) He also proposed a strategy to Twinnings which quadrupled their market share.
When the painting begun:
1990: Frustrated by corporate life, he moved to Bali to start a villa resort joint venture. Villa Lalu was the first such complex on the Kuta side of the island. Guests included Graham Nash (Crosby Stills and Nash) and Chris Noth (Sex in the City.) Then the complex burned to the ground.!!! And the painting started as he patiently waited for the rebuild.
1999: Back to Australia to care for a sick parent.
Then: He settled in the Dandenong Ranges with his partner. Finding Tom increasingly reclusive there, she bought him an art development course to get him out of the house! (And later added “permanently “ to that objective when she decided to become his Ex!) However, that gift proved to be the best ever. His love of painting just grew and grew.
2019 to Present: Resident and painting in Southbank, Melbourne.
