This was done to me once. Someone checked out my hotel room by placing what looked like a compact mirror under the door. (I was OK. I had my kilt on.) In this painting, the fire extinguisher is not the object on the wall. It’s a portend for how her relationship is about to be doused. Either by what she discovers, or by her being discovered. Take your pick.
